Talat mahmood was born in Lucknow, India, on February 24 , 1924. A famous singer and actor with silky voice famous for soft, romantic, lyrical ghazals and has usually been described as “Shahenshah-e-ghazal. He started broadcasting from the stations of All India Radio in 1939 and made his first record for His Master's Voice in 1941 in Calcutta. His first hit non-filmi ghazal was “Tasveer teri dil mera behla na sakay gee” in 1944. It's popularity was so phenomenal and unrivalled that even today it remains one of the top selling non-film discs. He acted in 13 films out of which 12 as hero against top heroines like Nautan, Mala Sinha and suraiyya. He had been the first choice of the music directors for romantic, slow and blue mood songs and sang almost 800 songs. The advent of rock-n-roll in the late 1960s sidelined singers like Talat. Talat continued to record good songs, but less in number. However, Talat who was the first Indian singer to go on a foreign concert tour in 1956 to East Africa found eager fans awaiting his arrival in foreign countries. Talat found packed audiences in USA, England, West Indies and other countries where he packed gigantic halls like Royal Albert Hall in London, Madison Square Garden in USA and Jean Pierre Complex in West Indies. He continued singing to packed auditoriums till 1991 when he toured Holland. Talat sang about 800 songs in his long career. He passed away on 9th May 1998.
